aaron lewis of staind - solo tour

Aaron Lewis has announced plans for an acoustic tour, kicking off October 7th in Boston.  Lewis is expected to preview tracks from his solo debut album he finished earlier this year while on the tour.  Full tour dates are listed below.
Lewis told Billboard in July that the album did not yet have a release date, but would be released by Atlantic Records.
"It's acoustic guitar based," Lewis said of the solo record, "and I recorded it in Nashville with a bunch of country session musicians. So it's kind of somewhere between country and James Taylor and 'It's Been Awhile.'"  Adding to the album's country theme, Hank Williams Jr., George Jones and Charlie Daniels will be featured on the album's first single, titled "Country Boy."
Following the tour, Lewis is expected to reunite with the members of Staind to begin work on the band's follow up to The Illusion of Progress.

stone temple pilots

Stone Temple Pilots have rescheduled a some tour dates so the recently reunited band can "take a short break" before resuming their fall trek in mid-October, 2010.  No reason was given for the changes, which started with the postponement of a show in El Paso, Texas. But on Sunday in Houston, STP took the stage an hour late, forcing five songs off their usual set list, and frontman Scott Weiland seemed disoriented, opening the show with a long rant and delivering "odd and confusing" banter throughout the night.

At a Stone Temple Pilots show in Red Rocks, Weiland was apparently slurring as he addressed the crowd on topics ranging from his prior drug problems to his inner ear monitor to the early days of STP. At one point, he admitted that he was drinking again.  Earlier in the tour, Weiland faced accusations that he was lip-synching or relying on a backing track, after the audience could hear what sounded like pre-recorded vocals when Weiland fell off the stage in Cincinnati, OH mid-song.

zz top - new cd

Billy Gibbons has revealed that ZZ Top are working on their first studio album since 2003 and that it’s being produced by producer extraordinaire Rick Rubin. The Texas trio will return to the studio following small tour with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (who have also worked with Rubin).

“He’s very instrumental in striking a resonant chord,” Gibbons said. “He’s able to find ways to pull things out that you might not know were there in the first place.”
Although ZZ Top remain a popular band and a concert draw, they haven’t had a Top 10 album since 1990’s Recycler.
“There's more music now in every shape and form – something to please everybody,” Gibbons said. “I think the bigger challenge is: Where do you go to discover it? If you’re lucky, maybe word of mouth. Somebody will make a recommendation, and if you trust them, you might take the time to check it out.”
However, on the whole, he feels fortunate about ZZ Top’s standing in the music world.
“We’re kind of in the cat-bird seat,” Gibbons said. “We’re very fortunate that we’ve established a gang load of fans that may not have a place to go buy a CD but, by hook or by crook, they will either beg, borrow or steal it.”

instruments from nashville flood to be auctioned

Dozens of guitars, mandolins and other instruments – straight from the hands of artists such as Peter Frampton, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Vince Gill and a host of others – are headed for the online auction block through nonprofit organization NASH2O (Nash-two-Oh) to support flood relief efforts in Nashville.
Proceeds go to three beneficiaries: MusiCares Nashville Flood Relief Fund for music industry professionals, Nashville Musicians Association Flood Relief Fund for those musicians that were uninsured, and Middle Tennessee fire and rescue departments.
NASH2O was organized shortly after the devastating May, 2010 floodwaters receded by three longtime Music City mainstays: George Gruhn, widely-recognized as the leading authority on vintage stringed instruments; Joe Glaser, renowned luthier and fine instrument repairman and steel guitarist/producer Bruce Bouton, a fixture on high-profile recordings and tours for decades. Their goal was to collect flood-damaged instruments from top artists, which could then be sold as presentation/collector pieces. The group secured underwriting support from Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, a major insurer of many of the affected artists and exclusive insurance sponsor of NASH2O.
NASH2O’s official launch is slated for Tuesday, October 12, 2010 with a VIP kickoff reception and press conference at the Hard Rock CafĂ© in downtown Nashville beginning at 4 p.m., featuring appearances by some of the artists who have donated instruments, special guests, a silent auction, and some of the instruments which are headed for online auction on display.
The public will have a chance to bid via the online auction, which will open the same day at http://www.nash2o.org. The NASH2O auction is unique in several ways, as the instruments offered for sale are historic musical artifacts from the record flooding that tore through Nashville in early May wrecking havoc on several instrument storage facilities, as well as musicians’ homes and studios. But as Gruhn explains, the instruments themselves are unlike what is usually available to fans and followers:
“It’s fairly common to see instruments, signed by artists, for sale in charity efforts or given as contest prizes. But those are almost always pieces donated by a manufacturer for that purpose. They’re handed to the artist, he signs them, and that’s really the only connection he has with them. The NASH2O pieces are the artists’ personal instruments. Peter Frampton’s Les Paul is, well, Peter Frampton’s Les Paul. Brad Paisley’s Tele-style guitar is Brad’s guitar. You hear that guitar on the records. You saw it in his hands in concert. These are very personal, cherished tools of the trade, and buyers can own a piece of that history, that pedigree.”
The online auction and NASH2O communities use Moontoast’s Social Commerce Platform. Moontoast provides highly customizable, branded Social Commerce solutions to brands and individuals who are looking to maximize their social media marketing and sales efforts. Artists such as Taylor Swift, Reba McEntire and Wynonna Judd are currently leveraging this technology.
Beside the artist owned instruments for auction, sweepstakes items of new instruments and/or premiums have been donated by Taylor Guitars, THD Amplifiers, Paul Reed Smith Guitars, Gibson Guitars, Martin Guitars and Yamaha Instruments.
