garth brooks - nashville flood

Garth Brooks' nine shows in Nashville this month may have brought as much as $10 million to the city's economy, according to the Nashville Business Journal. However, that figure provided by the Nashville Convention and Visitor's Bureau doesn't include local hotel revenues during Brooks' performances that took place 16 - 22 December 2010 in downtown Nashville. Brooks sold 140,000 tickets at $25 each for the shows that also featured his wife Trisha Yearwood.   Raising a projected estimate of $3 million for the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.  Concert proceeds will benefit ongoing flood relief after the city's devastating flood in May 2010.

leann rimes engaged

LeAnn Rimes announced 27 December 2010 that she is engaged to actor Eddie Cibrian.

This will be the second marriage for Rimes, who was divorced from  Dean Sheremet. The two married in 2002 and divorced earlier this year. At the same time, Rimes became involved with Cibrian.

In a Twitter post, Rimes said 27 December 2010, "Thank you for all your well wishes!! We are extremely excited and look forward to a beautiful future. It's been an incredible last few days, I was shocked!!! We are blessed, our families are so happy and our lives are filled with love."

"We got engaged on Christmas Eve, period the end. We've never been engaged to each other at all before that. We've always known that's where it was headed, but never was it official until now and we couldn't be happier," Rimes said in a post.

There was no word on when the wedding would be.

shania engaged

http://newsoholics.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/frederic-thiebaud-shania-twain.jpg

Country singer Shania Twain is engaged to the man whose wife stole her husband of 14 years, legendary producer Mutt Lange.

Twain suffered a broken heart after her husband left her for her friend in 2008 but she is now said to be 'happier than she's ever been'.

Frederic Thiebaud was married to Shania's friend and house manager Marie-Anne Thiebaud, who is now living with Lange.

When the country singer's marriage imploded two years ago with rumors of an affair between her husband and Marie-Anne, Shania turned to Thiebaud for comfort, who was also suffering from the devastating split from his wife.

By the summer of 2009, their friendship had turned into love.

And the lovebirds secretly engaged two months ago in Switzerland.

The couple stepped out together in New York last week, with Twain reportedly showing off an enormous engagement ring.

jim morrison won pardon

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_a5RLNWuQ7cw/SRGUMjFBCZI/AAAAAAAAAlk/QLDO8534bQ8/jim_morrison.jpg

Late rock legend Jim Morrison has won a posthumous pardon for charges of indecent exposure brought after a drunken gig 41 years ago.  Governor Charlie Crist appealed for clemency to a special board to clear the lead singer of 'The Doors' of the charges.

The board, which consists of Crist and a three-member Cabinet, voted unanimously to pardon Morrison on indecent exposure and profanity charges as they granted several other pardons Thursday. At the hearing, the governor called the convictions a “blot” on the record of an accomplished artist for “something he may or may not have done.”

Morrison was accused of displaying his penis, desecrating public morals and profanity while drunk.

"Morrison appeared to masturbate in full view of his audience, screamed obscenities and exposed himself," The Miami Herald newspaper reported at the time.

Some people who were at the Miami show March 1, 1969, insist even today that he exposed himself, though others in the audience and Morrison’s bandmates contend he was just teasing the crowd and only pretended to do the deed. Crist, tuned in to the controversy by a Doors fan, said there was enough doubt about what happened at the Dinner Key Auditorium to justify a pardon.

The singer however denied the charges and appealed the judgment and the sentence of six months hard labor, and paid bail to stay out of jail.

Fearing he would be sent to prison however, Morrison left for Paris where he died in 1971 at the age of 27 before his appeal was heard.

billy ray cyrus comments on miley's bong smoking

http://vizu.typepad.com/vizuble/images/2007/07/31/billy_ray_cyrus_mullet_image.jpg

On Friday 10 December 2010, footage of Miley Cyrus smoking from a bong appeared online. In the clip, Cyrus laughs and talks to an unidentified woman who is filming the teen star. The bong was reportedly filled with salvia, a psychoactive herb that is legal in California.

On Friday afternoon, Cyrus' father, Billy Ray, took to Twitter to express his disappointment over the video. "Sorry guys. I had no idea," he wrote. "Just saw this stuff for the first time myself. I'm so sad. There is much beyond my control right now."

The video was reportedly filmed in Cyrus' L.A.-area home on 28 November 2010, just days after she turned 18. "Having a little bit of a bad trip," she laughs in the video, moments after taking a hit from the bong. Cyrus then looks off in the distance and asks, "Is that Liam [Hemsworth]'s lookalike, or what the hell is that? Is that my boyfriend?"

She then spends the next 90 seconds laughing uncontrollably while someone behind the camera asks her to "tell us your thoughts, girl, tell us what's on your mind!"

Legal experts weighed in, noting that Cyrus is not breaking the law in the video since she was of age and allegedly smoked the substance in a state where salvia is legal. "The video might be embarrassing to her, but it does not put her in any legal risk," Keith Stroup, legal counsel at the marijuana advocacy group NORML. "At the moment, salvia is not illegal in California, so even if she walked out on the street and smoked it in front of police, she couldn't be arrested. And the video of her smoking isn't enough to get her in trouble, because there's no proof she wasn't smoking tobacco."

"Salvia is a drug of concern," said Michael Sanders, a spokesperson for the Drug Enforcement Agency. "We are taking steps to look further into it."

jon bon jovi - acting again?

Singer Jon Bon Jovi, who has not acted in movies since 2006, says he doubts if he would ever get back to acting - because it doesn't seem 'appealing' any more.

The rocker appeared in numerous movies, including 'Moonlight and Valentino' and 'Pay It Forward', as well as made high profile TV appearances in 'Sex and the City' and 'Ally McBeal'.

'I loved it. It adds a great humility to what I do musically, because I was able to continue in something in the arts with all the exuberance of youth and the experience of the music business, but truly on the bottom of the ladder...

'Maybe some day again I will act, but it's so far down the list of things to do these days, because the music has been so great, I've got other philanthropic actions and business stuff going on. So it's not that appealing,' Jon said.

kenny rogers on tour

At 72, Kenny Rogers is the father of six-year-old twins and still performing 100 dates a year, mixing his new country-pop songs with the old hits in a crowd-pleasing formula.
http://www.kennyrogerstickets.com/img/artist/kennyrogers.jpg
Rogers says his roots are in country, as his father played fiddle and his mother loved Hank Williams. But Rogers who began as a doo-wop singer, spent 10 years in a jazz trio, then fronted folk-rockers The First Edition before heading out to Nashville.
That was 1976 and by 1977, he'd had a huge hit with Lucille, a song he still sings today, with The Gambler coming a year later.

"I've always said that I look for two types of songs," he said. "There's a man's song which is Lucille, Coward of the County. And then there's a female song like She Believes in Me, You Decorated My Life, Buy Me a Rose, all of those songs. For the women, I like to find a song that says what every man would like to say and every woman would like to hear," Rogers said.

"The men's songs….those are really movie scripts. The trick is to tell you where you are when you start — 'on a warm summer's day on a train bound for nowhere' — take you on a journey, drop you off on an emotion."
